The National Marine Sanctuary Program–National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science Long–term Agreement (NMSP–NCCOS LTA)

Early in the partnership with NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary Program, an NCCOS scientist was selected to act as liaison for each sanctuary to augment the scientific capability at each sanctuary, and strengthen NCCOS’s understanding of the NMSP mission. The liaisons had the responsibility to know in great detail the issues, both science and policy, facing the sanctuary. Liaisons worked with other NCCOS scientists to develop and refine scientific measures to meet the sanctuary’s management needs and determine the significance of change in sanctuary resources. Together the NCCOS liaison and sanctuary site research coordinator worked to assess research gaps and needs relative to the site’s management goals, and to make recommendations for how the partnership could address these needs.

Annual liaison reports summarize the results of these actions for each sanctuary site.
