Hypoxia & Nutrient Pollution
Hypoxia and nutrient pollution are two major stressors contributing to the degradation of aquatic ecosystems, often with adverse impacts to plants, animals, and coastal economies. CSCOR is trying to understand how these stressors affect the structure and function of ecosystems by supporting integrated regional and targeted projects in high priority locations experiencing hypoxia and/or nutrient pollution. The ultimate objective of the research is to provide results and tools which will enable coastal resource managers to make informed, proactive, and scientifically based decisions to help mitigate the impact of these stressors on aquatic ecosystems. The Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Act (HABHRCA) authorizes funding and is a legislative driver for this research... More
