The Office of the Assistant Administrator for Information Services and Chief Information Officer (AIO) (CIO) is a key player in the leadership and management of the agency's information technology (IT) enterprise, including applications and infrastructure. The CIO has purview over and establishes policy and guidance in the areas of IT capital planning, enterprise services, data and information management, information systems security, portfolio and program services, privacy, and research and development. Leveraging resources and facilitating partnerships with internal and external stakeholders are chief components in achieving success.

The CIO organization is comprised of four offices - the Office of IT Enterprise Services (AES), the Office of Information Systems Security (AIS), the Office of IT Optimization (AOT), and the Office of IT Research and Development and Chief Technology Officer (ARD) (CTO) - which are responsible for various components of the above initiatives and programs including areas such as architecture development; asset management; audits; awareness and training; cyber security incident detection and response; directives, forms, and records management; interagency collaboration; policy development; process engineering; program compliance; software engineering; systems certification; video teleconferencing; and Web operations.
