Cirrhosis Quicknotes
[Word doc]

The Cirrhosis Quicknotes constitute an abbreviated version of the soon-to-be-published updated version of the Prevention and Treatment of the Complications of Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension Recommendations that is being developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs Hepatitis C Resource Center Program and the National Hepatitis C Program Office.

The Cirrhosis Quicknotes provide bottom-line current recommendations regarding management of compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, including guidelines for screening and management of varices and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and guidelines for the management of ascites, encephalopathy, variceal hemorrhage, and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, including dosages of recommended medications and goals of therapy. They also provide guidance regarding referral for liver transplantation.

Where appropriate, they provide links to Child-Turcotte-Pugh and MELD calculators and to the HCC Quicknotes.

The Cirrhosis Quicknotes will soon be available in the form of an algorithm and will be downloadable to a PDA.
