簡介
心理壓力會對青少年長期的身體和心理健康造成嚴重的影響。瞭解未受到控制的壓力在青春期早期的作用對於預防例如憂鬱症的慢性病至關重要。“更換視角”(Shifting the Lens)研究的目的是探究市區非洲裔美國九年級學生對心理壓力的感知、社會支援的來源以及心理調適策略的使用。

方法
採用了青少年驅動的混合方法來評估青少年對心理壓力的感知。2001–2002學年期間,馬里蘭州東巴爾的摩市(East Baltimore, Md)青少年參與者(N = 26)完成了問卷、語音記錄、累積分類活動和個人社會支援網路映射。

結果
與已有文獻強調暴力和鄰里因素對青少年心理壓力的影響相反,青少年更注重其他來源的心理壓力,特別是來自學校、朋友和家庭的心理壓力。取決於心理壓力的來源,他們依靠不同的個體以獲得支援 — 依靠朋友緩解來自浪漫關係的心理壓力,依靠家庭獲得對來自工作、學校和家庭壓力的支援。我們在參與研究的青少年中發現了心理調適方式的性別差異。女孩報告使用支援尋求和積極的心理調適策略的頻率要高於男孩。

結論
使用了多資料收集方法以獨特的角度探究心理壓力,使我們能夠瞭解一類青少年如何感知心理壓力並進行心理調適。以後的研究應該從青少年的觀點探究與馬里蘭州東巴爾的摩市類似社區的心理壓力。另外,計劃性建議應包括對性別特異性壓力控制活動的需求和教育成人有關青少年壓力的知識。實施了根據研究發現制定的社區參與性轉化干預措施,比如青少年製作的錄影帶和青少年服務提供者資源指南。
