The Global Communication & Marketing team hosted a study tour from China CDC-Guangzhou Province on October 29-30, 2008. The study tour focused on risk communications and included presentations on CDC’s Emergency Communication System (ECS) by the Emergency Risk and Communication Branch (ERCB) as well as a workshop on writing effective health messages. Other activities included discussions on media relations and risk communication principles.

Participants included representatives from China CDC-Guangzhou Province’s Department of Public Health Emergencies and Department of Emergency Health Rescue.

“The most useful aspect of the study tour was learning about ECS and its framework.” said one participant. “When we start to do risk communication, we must do it under a framework.”

This is the fourth study tour that the Global Communication & Marketing team has hosted. Other study tours have included guests from China CDC and the Chinese Ministry of Health as well as the Singaporean Ministry of Health.
