Welcome to the Seward Ranger District on the Chugach National Forest

Get your cool weather gear ready.

Reservations ended after Labor Day. Camping is available on a first come first served basis. All water systems have been shut down for the season. Drinking water is no longer available.

All trash removal service has been discontinued for the season. Visitors must pack out all trash. Most campgrounds on the Seward District remain open with reduced services, meaning reduced toilet servicing and site clean up. Some loops in the larger campgrounds are gated but campers are welcome to walk in. (more...)

The Chugach National Forest is the western most and northern most National Forest in the United States.  It is comprised of 5.5 million acres.

The Seward Ranger District encompasses the western most 890,000 acres of the Forest.

Our office is located in Seward, 135 miles southeast of Anchorage along the scenic All-American Seward Highway.
