Press Release: National Archives Awards Information Gathering and Analysis Contract

College Park, MD. . . Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin announced today that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) awarded a contract to SRA International, Inc. for the "Information Gathering, Analysis, and Report on Current Recordkeeping and Records Use within the Federal Government."

The contractor will identify and document perceptions and views in selected Federal offices concerning the creation, maintenance and use, and disposition of Federal records. This information, and the information collected in a related series of records systems analyses conducted by NARA staff, will be used to develop a better understanding of the current Federal recordkeeping and records use environment. In making the announcement, Mr. Carlin said "SRA, Inc. submitted a strong technical proposal and I am confident that they will conduct the project successfully. And I know our own staff will do an excellent job on the records systems analyses. The coordination of the two efforts will be critical, but I have no doubt that we will succeed."

SRA will begin the actual data collection on November 1. The project will be completed by September 1, 2001. This contract and the work on records systems analyses conducted by NARA staff are part of the larger NARA undertaking to review and, if necessary, to revise records management policies and guidance to fit the changing office environment. This contract award is one step toward that goal.
