Deck Department

The Deck Department consists of seven people, one Chief Boatswain (CB), one Boatswain Group Leader (BGL), one Seaman Surveyor (SS), two Able Bodied Seaman (AB), one Ordinary Seaman (OS) and one General Vessel Assistant (GVA). They are responsible for the operation of deck machinery, deploying and recovering instruments, handling cargo, operating the small boats, and anchoring and mooring the ship. The department also maintains the ship's external structure, rigging, boats, weather decks, and interior spaces except the engine room.
