Ban All Political Ads!

I'm sure we're all sick of the very one-sided and misleading political ads. This is what is making campaigns so expensive. Do we really want people to vote based on these ads? Let the government send every registered voter a pamphlet of who will be on the ballot along with any propositions. Each candidate would be allowed to explain why they wish to be elected. Pro and Con statements for each ballot would also be included. This is what currently exists in NYC. In addition, voters would also be able to request by mail or go to other Web sites for further information, if desired. Imagine no more negative ads! We'd probaly need a constitutional ammendment to get around the Supreme Court, though. Yes we can!

People will cite freedom of speech/freedom of the press to oppose this issue, but we must ask them why one must pay millions of dollars to media companies before one can exercise this "freedom".

Anyone who is intellectually honest must realize that these ads serve little purpose in promoting democracy.  More televized debates and competent candidate interviews (not sensationalist exposés) is what we need.  Perhaps a role for public broadcasting?
