  Deepwater Research

Remote operated vehicle (ROV) works in deepwater.Remote operated vehicle (ROV) works in deepwater

Drilling and production activities have accelerated greatly over the past several years in the deepwaters of the Gulf of Mexico. This move into deeper and deeper waters confronted both industry and MMS with many technical challenges. Challenges include pipeline installation and repair; design and reliability of new production systems; hydrate and paraffin control; and new mooring systems. Working both together and separately, industry and MMS have responded with numerous research projects to address the many technical challenges facing deepwater development.

The Technology Assessment and Research program is participating in several projects directed towards deepwater drilling and production activities.
