The deadline is approaching for health care professionals
to get up to $20,000 per year to pay back student loans.
HRSA's Bureau of Health Professions' Faculty Loan Repayment
Program will contribute up to $20,000 a year for two years
toward repaying the principal and interest on student loans
for qualified individuals. In return, recipients must agree
to serve on the faculty of an accredited health professions
institution for a minimum of two years.
This fiscal year, BHPr is making available approximately
$1 million to assist 32 to 37 health care professionals. Awards
vary by individual and discipline. Applications are due by
May 31, 2001.
Qualified applicants include those who:
- currently hold or are about to accept a faculty position
at an accredited health professions school;
- come from a disadvantaged background; and
- are currently repaying student loans acquired while obtaining
a health profession degree.
Preference will be given to individuals who:
- have not previously held a faculty position;
- have been out of school for less than five years;
- have not previously participated in the program;
- have received a commitment from the employing institution
to match FLRP funds; and
