Ideas to Reduce Roof Fall Injuries

Protective Canopy

Issue:When using a remote control in poor roof or rib conditions, the continuous miner operator is unprotected from roof or rib falls.
Solution:Provide a protective canopy with good visibility so that the operator is protected from roof and rib falls during continuous miner operation. The canopy can be attached by chain to roof bolts so that it will not tip over in the case of an extreme rib fall. There can be one canopy for each entry on a section. A scoop can be used to move the canopy when moving sections or advancing the canopy on an entry.
