magnetometer
A magnetometer is one of many technologies used at Camp Edwards to detect metal objects on or below the ground surface.
The Impact Area Groundwater Study Program for the Massachusetts Military Reservation has been working on an investigation and cleanup of the upper 15,000 acres of the Camp Edwards portion of the reservation since 1996 to protect human health, safety and the local environment. The goals of the program are to assess and clean up the impacts of historic training and defense contractor testing activities on the groundwater in the sole source aquifer that lies beneath Camp Edwards. Now under the command and control of the US Army Environmental Command, the Groundwater Study Program activities include the investigation of soil, surface water, sediment and groundwater to determine the extent and presence of contamination.
