Phoenix High School Gets The Bronze Medal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 05, 2009
PHOENIX HIGH SCHOOL THRIVES AMID KATRINA RUINS
BRAITHWAITE, La. – U. S. News & World Report, in collaboration with School Evaluation Services, has recognized Phoenix High School (Plaquemines Parish) as one of America’s Best High Schools, awarding Phoenix a bronze medal of distinction.
Thirty-nine Louisiana high schools made U. S. News & World Report’s 2009 List of Best High Schools and earned gold, silver or bronze medal rankings.  To derive the list, U. S. News & World Report and School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education data research business run by Standard & Poor’s, analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools in forty-eight states (48).
The final report is based on key principles that “a great high school must serve all its students well, not just those who are bound for college and that it must be able to produce measureable academic outcomes to show that the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.”
Phoenix High School, PK-12, is located on the east bank of lower Plaquemines Parish, and was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.  After its destruction by Katrina, the school was temporarily moved into portable buildings erected in front of the old school’s ruins.  The old school is being demolished and preparations are underway for construction of the new Phoenix High School, which is slated for completion in 2010.
The entire school community should be commended for being real survivors, true SPARTANS, and thriving amid Katrina ruins.  They have worked tirelessly to rebuild their school, achieve excellence, and regain stability in their personal lives amid Katrina ruins.

CONGRATULATIONS PHOENIX HIGH SCHOOL
