MMS EXTENDS THE COMMENT PERIOD FOR PROPOSED
NEW 5-YEAR LEASING PROGRAM

WASHINGTON – On August 1, 2008, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) issued a Request for Comments on the preparation of a possible new 5-year federal OCS oil and gas leasing program. The comment period was scheduled to close on Monday, September 15, 2008.

However, due to the significant disruptions to people and services caused by Hurricane Gustav and projected impacts from Hurricane Ike, MMS is extending the comment period to Thursday, September 18, 2008.

Comments will continue to be accepted via the online Public Connect system, via email at 5yearRFIComments@mms.gov, and in hard copy to:
