"The United States is disappointed by Canada’s finding that there is enough
evidence to move forward with a full investigation of whether its corn growers
are being hurt by imports of unprocessed U.S. grain corn. We believe that U.S.
corn exports pose no threat to Canadian corn growers, and we will continue to
argue our case with the Canadian investigative agencies and defend the interests
of U.S. corn producers and exporters.
"In fact, imports of U.S. corn into Canada are down over the past two years.
While Canada’s corn production has increased, its domestic corn demand still
cannot be met through domestic production alone. Twenty Canadian corn user
groups have expressed their opposition to this case moving forward.
"The United States is pleased, however, that Canada has decided to terminate
the investigation with regard to processed corn products, such as corn flour and
corn meal." ###
