Senate Manual: Search TipsCatalog of Available Documents | Sample Searches | Identification Code Catalog of Available DocumentsTo view a current catalog of Senate Manual documents available via GPO Access, choose a Congress(es) and click on the "submit" button on the search page without having entered any query terms and then select the appropriate document from the results list. Sample Searches (3)The following sample searches are provided as guides to searching the Senate Manual. For the sake of space, only the top three hits in each results list are included with each example below. Table of Contents | Page Number | Subject 1. Search by Table of ContentsThis search will provide you with the table of contents for the Senate Manual. You do not need to include the word "of" in your search, because it is a stop word and will be ignored by the system. However, using it will not alter your results. The table of contents is contained in the preliminary pages within the document titled "SENATE MANUAL" in your results list.
2. Search by Page NumberTo search by a page number in the Senate Manual type the word "page"
followed by a space and the page number you wish to find, surrounding
the phrase in quotation marks. If the document you are looking for continues
on another page, you will get all pages.
3. Search by SubjectTo search by a subject containing more than one word, surround the entire
phrase in quotation marks. This example will retrieve any document containing
the phrase "articles of confederation". The actual document
"articles of confederation" appears first in your results list.
Identification CodesEach record will display in the results list with the database code, followed by the initial words of the title. The identification code for the Senate Manual, 104th Congress is "Senate Manual” followed by a truncated title. The identification code for the Senate Manual, 106th Congress is "106th Congress Senate Manual" followed by a truncated title. For example:
