Distance Learning Options

More and more people interested in college have family and work obligations that prevent them from taking classes on a college campus.  UMA has worked with these busy adult learners for many years, and today many of our most popular academic courses and programs are available close to one's home -- and sometimes right in one's home.

UMA Distance Learning options include:

  • Attending onsite courses through University College at 10 community locations around the state.
  • Attending courses via Interactive Television (ITV) at one of the 80 receive sites in Maine.
  • Taking online courses via the Internet from your home or office.
  • A combination or blending of the above options, e.g., ITV lecture combined with online projects and discussion, or online courses supplemented with videotapes or CDs mailed to the student, or in-person classes supported with online activities and services

UMA offers a wide variety of courses using distance education technologies. Students can complete core course requirements for most UMA majors though distance learning options. In addition, the following UMA academic degrees are available entirely through distance learning delivery in Maine:

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Human Services
  • Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies
