Overview
In 1985, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was created between the Department of Transportation (DOT) and FERC. The MOU acknowledged: DOT’s exclusive authority to promulgate Federal safety standards for LNG facilities; FERC’s authority to impose more stringent safety requirements when warranted at LNG facilities under FERC jurisdiction; and FERC’s authority to impose requirements to ensure or enhance operational reliability of its jurisdictional LNG facilities. |
