Drug Dosing Toolkit

Lexiva (fosamprenavir)

Type of Drug: Protease Inhibitor
Once HIV has infected a cell and made copies of itself, it uses an enzyme called protease to process itself correctly so it can be released from the cell to infect other cells. Protease inhibitors work by blocking that enzyme.

Approved adult dosing

two 700 mg tablets Lexiva, two times a day

  • Morning

Note: This dosage may not be appropriate for people who have taken other HIV medications in the past; discuss with your medical provider

Notes on taking this medication

  • No food restrictions, can take with or without food
  • Lexiva interacts with many other drugs; persons using Lexiva with those drugs may need an adjustment to their dose of Lexiva or the other drugs; consult your medical provider

Side effects

  • Nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; fatigue; headache
  • Rash
  • Persons who are allergic to sulfa drugs may be allergic to Lexiva
  • Liver inflamation and increased liver enzyme levels
  • Elevations in cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Abnormal accumulation of body fat
