LNG - Environment
    FERC is the lead federal agency that will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a LNG terminal and related pipeline facility. The US Coast Guard and the Department of Transportation are cooperating agencies during the EIS preparation. The EIS also addresses LNG tanker operations.

    There are numerous opportunities for public involvement during FERC's environmental and safety review of a LNG project. This includes the ability to comment on the draft EIS. FERC responds to those comments in its final EIS.

    An EIS evaluates the potential hazards and risks to the environment and surrounding communities from the:
    1. LNG terminal related construction and operation;
    2. Project-specific operating plans; and
    3. LNG tanker operation.

    FERC makes electronic copies of the draft and final EISs available to the public. A limited number of paper copies are also available from the Public Reference Room (call toll free 1-866-208-3676)
