Presidential Inauguration Bus Routes

Metro is running 23 special rapid bus corridors to carry thousands of people heading to the National Mall on Inauguration Day. Metro plans to extend its rush-hour bus service from 4 am until 9 pm via the 23 "Presidential" corridors on January 20. The buses are planned to arrive at regularly marked stops every 10 minutes or less along 23 bus routes throughout the day to and from the National Mall. Metrobuses will be able to cross bridges closed to other traffic, will be permitted on roads closed to automobiles and will run bus-only through Georgetown from Wisconsin Avenue to Washington Circle bypassing regular traffic. A special cross town connector bus shuttle, from North Capitol Street to Washington Circle, will also be in service.

Metro is selling a special one-day Inauguration bus pass only on January 20. Bus passengers can purchase the $5 pass when they board a bus and receive the pass from operators, good for riding all day. Metro riders can still pay the full $1.35 cash one-way fare or pay $1.25 with a SmarTrip® card.

Metro will run extra bus service to airports for Inauguration Weekend.

Where to Wait for the Bus

Check the bus destination before you board. The route number and destination are displayed above the windshield and on the boarding side of the bus.
Metrorail and Metrobus Transfers

Beginning Jan. 4, 2009 Metro will not issue or accept paper transfers. To get the rail-to-bus discount or to transfer free from bus to bus, you must use SmarTrip®. Until then:
- Get a rail-to-bus transfer when you enter the Metrorail system. With the transfer, you pay a reduced fare on Metrobuses. These transfers are also accepted on most local buses.
- Get a free Metrobus transfer when you get on the bus and pay your fare. Use it within two hours for a free ride on Metrobus, Alexandria DASH, Arlington ART, City of Falls Church GEORGE, Connect-A-Ride, Fairfax Connector, Fairfax CUE, Montgomery County Ride On, PRTC OmniRide or Prince George's County TheBus.
