Metro's Judiciary Square and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail stations to close early on Inauguration Day

For immediate release: January 12, 2009

Customers advised to use other stations that day

The Judiciary Square Metrorail station on the Red Line and the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St Convention Center Metrorail station on the Yellow and Green lines will close early for security reasons on Inauguration Day.

The Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St Convention Center Metrorail station will close at 7:30 a.m., and the Judiciary Square Metrorail station will close at 4 p.m., due to their proximity to locations hosting Inaugural Balls. Both stations are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m., on Wednesday, January 21.

Metro encourages people to use nearby stations such as the Metro Center, Gallery Pl-Chinatown or Union Station Metrorail stations.

People can also sign up for special e-alerts, dedicated to the Inauguration, on Metro’s Web site at http://www.wmata.com/inauguration. E-alerts will be issued when Metro has news relating to service for the Inauguration, and, perhaps more importantly, when there may be service disruptions during the course of the four-day Inauguration Weekend.
