Nationwide Job Transfer Opportunities - Your nursing license is your passport to working anywhere in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Only one current, active, and unrestricted state license is required to practice in any VA facility. So you can go anywhere life and ambition take you.

Student Debt Reduction - Newly appointed VA nurses can qualify for up to $45,000 in nursing education loan repayments.

Scholarship Programs - Nurses can also qualify for up to $35,000 in tax-free scholarship funding to further their education and obtain a higher degree.

Competitive Salaries - VA nurses are compensated according to a Locality Pay System (LPS) that ensures they are paid competitive rates within each local labor market.

Pay Differential - Nurses earn premium pay for on-call, weekend, overtime, and holiday duty: 10 percent of base hourly pay rate for night shifts, 25 percent for weekends, 50 percent for overtime, and double pay for holidays.

Paid Leave - RNs earn 26 days of paid annual leave and may accumulate up to 85 days. LPNs/LVNs earn between 13 and 26 days, commensurate with years of experience. All nurses earn 13 sick days and 10 Federal holidays, as well.

Flexible Work Schedules - Full-time and part-time alternate schedules may be offered to RNs who work in areas that are hard to retain/recruit. Because these and other flexible schedules are decided locally, it is best to inquire about alternate scheduling with the facility where you desire employment.

Health Insurance Plans - VA offers a wide variety of health insurance plans to let you choose the one that fits your needs best.

Federal Retirement System - All VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System, a stable, three-tiered plan that lets you rest assured about the future.
