Change in Parking and Access Procedures in College Park

Effective July 1, 2005, visitors may notice changes in general parking and building access procedures at the National Archives at College Park, MD. We will no longer issue one-day-use permits to allow visitors and researchers to park in the garage or along the access road from Adelphi Road .

Researchers and visitors will continue to be able to park in the garage during public access hours and will still be required to present valid Federal or state issued photographic identification to the security officer on duty. The parking is on a first come, first serve basis and the number of spaces is limited.

As of July 1, the parking garage opens to the public at 8:00 a.m. The public will not be allowed to leave cars overnight. Vehicles without a NARA parking permit must exit the garage no later than 30 minutes after the research rooms close. Currently research rooms close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday; 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Vehicles in the garage or on the access road without NARA parking permits after these times are subject to removal at the owners' expense. Please note: Researchers taking the 5:00 PM NARA shuttle from Archives I to Archives II on Mondays and Wednesdays will have at least 30 minutes after the shuttle arrives at Archives II to retrieve their vehicles without concern of being towed.
