The first work of art placed in the National Gallery's East Building, this mobile is also one of the last major pieces by one of America's great artists, Alexander Calder, the man who invented this form of art. The program takes us on an absorbing journey, as Calder, architect I. M. This CD-ROM allows users to explore more than 1,500 paintings and sculpture in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art. Based on the National Gallery's Micro Gallery multimedia system, this encyclopedic program introduces the work of more than 600 artists. High-quality color images and details permit close study of the works of art. A subject index relates the works thematically, while a timeline places them in the context of major historical and cultural events. Also included are regional maps and a dictionary of terms.
Note: Available for a nine-month loan period, permitting extended use in classroom or library settings.
