The birth of Pennsylvania, 1680 J.L.G. Ferris. The artist, Jean Leon Gerome Ferris depicts William Penn holding a paper while standing and facing King Charles II, in the King's breakfast chamber at Whitehall. Starting in the early 20th century, Ferris created a series of commemorative interpretations of early American development called "The Pageant of a Nation."
