Cascade Head Trail # 1310Note: Closed for public safety due to tree hazards
This trail runs north to south within the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. The Sitka Spruce-Western Hemlock rain forest here has been studied by foresters since 1934. This trail is less crowded than the other two popular trails in the area – it is entirely inland and has no view points. Mid-way on the trail near the headwaters of Calkins Creek there remains a grove of six-foot diameter Sitka spruce. Length: 6 miles Elevation: South TH – 60 feet; North TH - 640 feet; Forest Service Road 1861 - 752 feet Permitted Uses: Hiking. Difficulty: Difficult Season: Open year round. Seasonal Closures: None Trailhead Amenities: None Accessibility: None How to get there: North Trailhead, Falls Creek, is located south of Neskowin 1.0 miles. South Trailhead is located north of the Highway 101 and 18 junction 0.5 miles. The south trailhead is located at the corner of Hwy 101 and Three Rocks Road.
