Abstract of the Original Science Article

Effective grant review requires both continuity and change. The Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health is identifying changes to its system of peer review for grant applications so it better reflects the fast pace of science and the major changes occurring in biomedical research institutions.  As reported in this Policy Forum, steps are now being taken to shorten and improve the process so researchers, science, and public health can be better served.  As these needed improvements are developed, CSR will seek input from all stakeholders and work to ensure the quality and fairness of its review process.
