  • Selected Files from the Idaho State Office of the Bureau of Land Management
    98 photographs have been digitized from the Serialized Land Case Files and the Range Improvement, Soil and Moisture Conservation Project Files of the Bureau of Land Management, Idaho State Office. The files include documentation on cancelled and relinquished land claims, some right-of-way files and other files created by the General Land Office and the Bureau of Land Management documenting the transfer of government land. The files also document the work done in soil and moisture conservation by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp DG-4. These materials are held by NARA's Pacific Alaska Region (Seattle, WA).

  • Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel-The King Survey, 1867 - 1872
    218 photographs have been digitized from this survey. During the 4 years he spent as photographer for the King survey in 1867-1869 and 1872, Timothy O' Sullivan used a stereoscope camera as well as a full plate camera. The stereo negatives that resulted show the entire area covered by the expedition in eastern California, Nevada, northern Utah, Southern Idaho, southern Wyoming and northwestern Colorado. See the inventory card for 77-KS and the King Survey caption list for further information. Two different size stereo glass plates were used by O'Sullivan. The 4 by 10 plates were used mostly during the 1867-1869 in Nevada, California, Idaho and the southern Wahsatch Range in Utah.   • Hayden Survey, William H. Jackson, Photographs, 1869 - 1878
    1,106 photographs have been digitized from this series. This series of photographs was taken by William H. Jackson, photographer accompanying the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories directed by Ferdinand V. Hayden. It includes a collection of photographs reflecting the surveys activities in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Montana. Although Yellowstone National Park is emphasized, other prominent landmarks include Pike's Peal, Garden of the Gods, Long's Peak, Berhod Pass, Mountain of the Holy Cross, Uintah Mountains, and the Badlands. Besides landscape views, they occasionally depict towns and military reservations (Salt Lake City, Ofgen, Fort Jall, Helena), survey members and equipment, Union Pacific Railroad Stations, Indians and Indian ruins, and various techniques of gold mining.   • Wheeler Expedition Stereoscopic Photographs, 1871 - 1874
    27 photographs from this series have been digitized. The digitized images include stereoscopic photographs prepared by the Corps of Engineers from the Wheeler Expedition original photographs. Subjects include the geology, flora, fauna, and native peoples of the areas surveyed by Lieutenant George M. Wheeler in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Idaho. These materials are held by  NARA's Pacific Region (Laguna Niguel, CA).

  • Geographical Explorations and Surveys West of the 100th Meridian, 1873
    130 photographs have been digitized from this survey. During the 1873 field season of the Wheeler Survey, Timothy O'Sullivan photographed the Sierra Blanca or White Mountains in Arizona, Canon de Chelle, Santa Fe, the Colorado River, Inscription Rock at El Moro Canon, Zuni Pueblo and its inhabitants, Navajo, and Apache Indians, Fort Defiance and Camp Apache. The project histories are narrative and statistical reports on the development and functioning of each project by the project engineer manager. The histories relate to the project legislative background including authorizations, photographs, graphs, charts, blueprints, and maps. Also included are operation and maintenance reports, correspondence of major importance to the project, and clippings from newspapers and magazines.   • Photograph Albums from the Engineering and Research Center of the Bureau of Reclamation, 1903 - 1972
    1,137 photographs have been digitized from the series Photograph Albums, 1903 - 1972. The images document construction of dams and related work throughout the western United States. Evidently, they compiled primarily from periodic narrative or work reports, such as weekly and monthly construction progress reports. Although most of the albums provide a photographic history of project construction, a few contain copies of photographs used for other purposes, such as Bureau press releases. These materials are held by NARA's Rocky Mountain Region (Denver, CO).

  • Records of the Supervising Engineer of the Bureau of Reclamation in Charge of Emergency Conservation Work, 1935 - 1937
    3 multi-page documents from this series have been digitized. The digitized documents relate to Civilian Conservation Corps camps working on reclamation projects. These activities were "Emergency Conservation Work" and were placed under a Supervisory Engineer until 1937, when a CCC Division was formally established in the Bureau of Reclamation.
