Training Requirements for Human Subjects Protection

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) requires two trainings for Human Subjects Protection;

  1. The Ethical Principles of Human Subjects Protection
  2. Good Clinical Practice.

FAQ There are a variety of VA courses and non-VA courses that have been approved by the Office of Research and Development. Clicking on this link will lead you to a list of approved courses. The following people are required to take both Ethical Principles of Human Subjects Protection and Good Clinical Practice training:

  • All members of the research team including but not limited to: investigators, research coordinators and research assistants involved in human studies research prior to conducting a research study.
  • All members of the Research Office, the R&D Committee, and Research Compliance Officers.
  • All members of VA IRB Administrative Staff and VA IRB Committees.
  • Note: Secretarial support is not required to complete training in the Protection of Human Research Subjects and GCP.
