  1. Question: Is it true that the NFIP will waive the minimum qualifications for getting certified if my company is sponsoring an NFIP Approved Presentation?

    Answer: No. You must meet the minimum requirements. Please refer to the Adjuster Participation in the NFIP page.


  2. Question: I am an NFIP certified independent adjuster. Although I am not with a company, would I be able to write a sponsorship letter on behalf of someone who is trying to get certified?

    Answer: No, an independent adjuster can never sponsor another independent adjuster.


  3. Question: Who do I contact about working directly for FEMA during a storm/flood?

    Answer: You must contact FEMA directly.


  4. Question: I attended an NFIP workshop and have not received any CEU credits to date. I have completed the necessary steps to receive my credits. What do I do?

    Answer: Please refer to the Continuing Education Credits page.


  5. Question: I applied for certification years ago, but never received a letter or card. If I am in the adjuster system, can I still receive a card if it has never been sent to me?

    Answer: No. Please refer to the Adjuster Participation in the NFIP page.


  6. Question: Is the NFIP Claims Presentation a certification class?

    Answer: No. The NFIP Claims Presentation is a part of the minimum requirement to receive certification.


  7. Question: I did not attend last year presentation. Do I still have an active flood certification?

    Answer: No, you must attend one claims presentation each calendar year to be actively certified.


  8. Question: Why did I not receive a Certificate of Completion for attending a NFIP Claims Presentation?

    Answer: As of 2006, attendees will no longer receive a Certificate of Completion. However, in certain "special presentations" you may receive an NFIP Certificate of Completion.


  9. Question: I did not receive my Flood Certification Number. It was sent to my work instead. Why?

    Answer: The number is sent to the mailing address which is printed on the application.


  10. Question: I am not a certified adjuster. Can I use another adjuster's certification number to adjust claims?

    Answer: No, you must receive your own certification number.


  11. Question: How do I gain experience/training for the minimum requirements of Flood Certification?

  12. Question: Once I am a flood certified adjuster, how do I receive NFIP flood claims?

    Answer:The NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent does not assign flood claims.


  13. Question: Is there a deadline for sending in an Adjuster's Certification Application?

    Answer:Yes, the NFIP Adjuster's application for certification must be mailed to the NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent with a postmark by June 30th of the current year.


  14. Question: I was unable to attend any currently scheduled NFIP Claims Presentations displayed on the brochure. Are there any additional presentations?

    Answer: There are no additional NFIP Claims Presentations other than what is listed on the brochure and on our Claims Presentation Schedule page.


  15. Question: Can a lost, stolen or damaged Flood Certification Card be replaced?

    Answer: No, the NFIP will not replace a lost, stolen or damaged card.


  16. Question: Can I call the NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent to find status of my application for certification?

    Answer: Every application received by the NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent will be responded to by mail only. You will receive information on the status of your application by receiving a rejection letter or the Flood Certification Number, as long as the printed mailing address is readable.


  17. Question: Is there a fee to apply for an adjuster's Flood Certification Number?

    Answer: No.


  18. Question: Does registering for a NFIP Claims Presentation automatically certify me for a Flood Certification Number?

    Answer: No. The minimum requirements must be met. Please refer to the Adjuster Participation in the NFIP page.


  19. Question: My company sent in my Application for Certification with their address to the NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent. Why have I not received it?

    Answer: All correspondence will be sent to the mailing address printed on the application.


  20. Question: I submitted my Application for Certification through my company. How can I check the status of my application?

    Answer: You must contact the company to receive the status of your application.


  21. Question: Can I find out another applicant's status for their application for certification?

    Answer: No. Due to the Privacy Act, the NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent is only able to release information to the primary applicant.


  22. Question: I attended a Special Certification Presentation for Katrina, but never received my Flood Certification Number. Am I still flood certified?

    Answer: No, you must re-apply and meet the minimum requirements. Please refer to the Adjuster Participation in the NFIP page.


  23. Question: I have an "M" next to my Flood Certified Number. Am I certified?

    Answer: No, you are on the NFIP mailing list, but you are not a flood certified adjuster.
