This report presents findings on the experiences of rural independent pharmacies that participate with Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) and are the sole providers of pharmacy services in their communities. It provides information to both administrative and legislative policy makers to remedy the difficulties by examining the challenges faced by rural independent pharmacies as a result of working with Medicare PDPs, such as difficulties with negotiating payment terms with Medicare PDPs, dependence on payments from Medicare beneficiaries, and pharmacy size. The report includes tables, figures, and references.
