Lake Charles Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Opens

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- A mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open at 9 a.m. Monday, June 19 on the grounds of the Lake Charles Civic Center, according to officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The mobile DRC will be used as an alternative/transitional center to meet the needs of disaster applicants through and beyond the June 30 closing of the "fixed" DRC in the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Starting Monday June 19, the mobile DRC will operate on the grounds of the Lake Charles Civic Center on Mondays and Tuesdays. The mobile facility will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Applicants may access information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Hearing-or speech- impaired individuals may call 1-800-462-7585.

Representatives FEMA as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will on hand to offer assistance.

No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
