NEW ORLEANS, La. -- After more than 6,000 visits since its opening on Feb. 1, 2006, the Gentilly Disaster Recovery Center located on 4128 Franklin Avenue in New Orleans will close April 29 at 5 p.m.
“We are pleased that so many hurricane victims received help at these important centers,” said FEMA Transitional Recovery Office Director Scott Wells. “And we view the closing of each DRC in Louisiana as a sign that residents have gained useful recovery information and are moving forward.”
Applicants may also access disaster recovery information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.
Hearing- or speech-impaired persons may register by calling 1-800-462-7585. The Helpline operates every day from 6 a.m. to midnight.
At all remaining DRCs, representatives of state and federal agencies and the U.S. Small Business Administration answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.
After April 29, the following DRCs are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FEMA also initiates mitigation activities works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
