BATON ROUGE, La. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced it will discontinue payment of propane gas and food service for the Groom Road (Renaissance Village) group site.

FEMA has been providing free propane and food services (three meals per day) for the Groom Road group site, since it opened on Oct. 6, 2005. Propane services will discontinue on Feb. 1, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. Food services will end on April 6.

As per the propane agreement, all local area group sites will receive a 30-day discontinuation notice at the 90-day anniversary of each site opening. After the total 120-day period has ended, individuals will be responsible for payment of their own propane. The first 30-day notice was distributed to Groom Road residents on Jan. 2. An additional courtesy notice was sent out on Jan. 27 and included a list of gas providers and instructions on how to make a propane tank exchange.

The same process will occur at the Airport group sites as follows: On Feb. 2, 2006, a 30-day notice of termination of free propane service will be issued at Airport III. Airport I and II will receive the same notice at their respective 90-day marks.
