BATON ROUGE, La. -- During a disaster, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sets up disaster recovery centers (DRCs) for the affected areas.

DRCs are readily accessible facilities or mobile offices where applicants may go for information about FEMA or other disaster-assistance programs. Individuals are not required but are encouraged to visit DRCs in their area for answers related to their personal case.

Services that are provided at DRCs are:

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
