BATON ROUGE, La. -- Federal and state officials are pleased to announce that more than $4 billion in disaster assistance is now in the hands of Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims from Louisiana. Disaster assistance funds have helped individuals and families with temporary rental expenses, housing repair to damaged homes, and critical disaster-related needs, including reimbursement for damaged property and belongings. These funds have allowed many to begin their journey on the road to recovery.

The disaster assistance funds disbursed to hurricane victims include:

Housing assistance - including rental assistance and emergency home repairs

Other Needs Assistance for serious disaster-related needs

More than 1.4 million people have registered for disaster assistance, and more than 98 percent of registered applicants have received some type of disaster assistance.
