Baton Rouge , La. -- Local citizens, business and organizational leaders are invited to attend the Cameron Community Recovery Workshops to give input on needs and barriers to the recovery process. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) are holding these workshops to engage the public in defining the vision for the community recovery and to identify critical priorities. The two workshops will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at:

Dec. 7 -- Hackberry High School
1390 School St.
Hackberry, LA

Dec. 14 -- Grand Lake High School
1039 Hwy. 384
Grand Lake, LA

All local input will be rolled up into regional and statewide strategies to help direct state and federal recovery assistance. To encourage citizen participation, an awareness campaign features the theme: "Louisiana Speaks. Our Voice. Our Plan. Our Future."

"We value community input in the recovery and rebuilding process.  No one knows the communities better than the people who live there," says Deborah Tootle, an associate professor of community and economic development at Louisiana State University. FEMA and the LRA encourage everyone to attend these meetings to give their input on area needs and planning for the future.

The Louisiana Recovery Authority is the planning and coordinating body that will assist in implementing the Governor's vision for the recovery of Louisiana. The authority will identify and prioritize the short- and long-term needs of the recovery. The authority will seek out and value local input as it plans and implements the recovery.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
