AUSTIN, Texas -- Before Hurricane Ike made landfall, people knew that it was going to be big, and that the recovery process was likely to be among the most complex the nation has ever experienced. In anticipation of this event, a federal, state and local initiative focusing on recovery commenced. One of the outcomes of this effort is the Hurricane Ike Impact Report.
The Hurricane Ike Impact Report is being made available to the public today. The report was initiated and coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This report is intended to be a living document that will change as more information becomes known. It is a snapshot of our current understanding of the impacts brought about by Hurricane Ike.
This impact analysis is the culmination of months of study and research, creating a baseline of where these communities were and where they are now. FEMA hopes that this report will emphasize the need for additional collaboration and coordination to assist communities in addressing their long-term recovery.
