Email NIH Library reference librarians with your reference questions.

Books

Books are shelved by call number. Reference books (designated NIH LIB REF) are located on the upper level and circulating books on the lower level. Books may be found through the online catalog. Checked out books may be renewed by using the "My NIH Library Record" link on the main page of the catalog.

Database Development
NIH Librarians can provide consultation in designing and developing databases that organize collections of articles, documents or other items for easy retrieval.

Databases
Databases and search systems in biomedicine and the sciences are available through Research Tools to NIH staff. Areas covered include animal science, clinical trials, drugs, nursing, and the social sciences.

Document Delivery
Request any item from the NIH Library. Articles, books, videos, dissertations, and other items can be obtained for research purposes. Document requests may also be submitted using the document request feature of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus or the Ovid databases.

In-depth Literature Searches

If you are in need of extensive database searching for special projects, a librarian can work directly with your group to provide consultation on choosing appropriate database resources, developing search strategies, as well as providing in-depth, quality-filtered search results.

Informationist
This special liaison program augments your information resources, saves you and your staff time, and most importantly, enhances the quality of research and patient care.

Journal Management

The NIH Library staff can use its journal tracking system to order, receive, and claim journal issues for you.

Journals

A current copy of popular journals may be browsed on the main level of the Library, on the Selected New Journals shelves. The Library's collection of print journals are arranged alphabetically, by title, on the lower level. Journal holdings may be found through the online catalog.

Library Orientation

Orientations to the services of the NIH Library are conducted upon request for NIH staff. Library orientations include a demonstration of the Library's web page with special emphasis on the Library's many resources.

Online Books

Online full-text books, by leading authorities in the areas of biomedicine and social sciences, are available to NIH staff through the Research Tools button on the menu bar. Listings include current titles and specific details necessary to ensure access.

Online Journals

To accommodate the information needs of NIH, 99% of the Library's journals are online and 72% go back to the first volume. Access to more than 9,000 full-text journals is available to NIH staff through Research Tools. Most online journal articles can be viewed and printed on campus, or off campus using remote access. Details about remote access are found on the CIT Remote Access page.

Reading Room Management

Eliminate the time-consuming hassles of maintaining your library or reading room.
