Mission
The Division of Library Services, through a comprehensive range of information resources, services and knowledge, advances the highest quality of research and service by NIH and selected Health & Human Services (HHS) agencies as they seek to protect the health of all Americans through the pursuit of fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and provide essential human services.

Vision for 2010
The Division of Library Services (DLS) will be the heart of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), vital to the success of the NIH mission; it also will be a valued ally to other agencies within the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). (Read More)

Vision for 2010
The Division of Library Services (DLS) will be the heart of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), vital to the success of the NIH mission; it also will be a valued ally to other agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The DLS will:

excel and innovate in information resources and services for NIH and other DHHS agencies;

enable the creation of information and knowledge through a seamless information architecture;

partner with NIH and HHS groups and the scholarly community at large to assure the right content reaches the right people at the right time;

facilitate the debate on issues surrounding scholarly communication among NIH and other HHS authors and leadership;

conduct its own research to solve information challenges that arise.

Values
Excellence - the NIH Library is committed to providing excellent information services, products, collections, and people to aid NIH in achieving its mission. Staff demonstrate this commitment by their helpfulness, their respect for the information needs of users, their recognition of the value of cooperation and teamwork, and by their sense of responsibility toward their work.

Integrity -
the NIH Library sets high expectations or standards of performance for its staff, services, resources and products. The Library trusts staff to meet or exceed these expectations.

Innovation - the NIH Library is dedicated to learning. It is progressive and seeks to incorporate new knowledge, creatively striving to find better, more effective ways to deliver its services and resources.
