Task Force on the United Nations

How is the United Nations fulfilling its mandate? In December 2004, Congress directed USIP to create a Task Force on the United Nations to assess this vital question and to recommend an actionable agenda.

The Task Force released its findings in a report released in June 2005 and an update released in December 2005.

UN Management and Accountability: Advancing the Agenda for Reforms

In 2005, the Institute coordinated a Congressionally-directed Task Force on the United Nations that concluded fundamental reforms in management and accountability structures were necessary if the UN hoped to be effective and relevant in the future.
Paul Volcker, Chairman of the Independent Inquiry Committee into the UN Oil-for-Food Programme, and Roderick Hills, a member of the Task Force on the United Nations, evaluated the progress the UN has made and discussed how Kofi Annan can use his last few months in office to advance reform.

The Imperative for Action
On November 22, 2005, the Task Force on the United Nations asked "what now... and how?" for UN reform. The session evaluated the reform process through the lens of key recommendations made in its June 2005 report.
