John H. Bridges III

Assistant Administrator, National Integration Center

John H. Bridges III joined FEMA in June 9, 2008 as the Assistant Administrator, National Integration Center (NIC), with a mission responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating preparedness training, education, exercise programs, doctrine, and lessons learned/corrective actions to ensure the Nation is prepared to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from all hazards, natural or manmade.  He came to FEMA after serving as the Executive Director, National Preparedness and Homeland Security for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), where he provided focused leadership and direction necessary for consolidating Emergency Management and Homeland Security responsibilities for the Postal Service within the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. 

Mr. Bridges retired from the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) in 1995, which included increasingly responsible assignments and leadership in times of crises, which included an assignment as a Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC).  Mr. Bridges is known for his demonstrated ability in and knowledge of emergency management and homeland security efforts that produce measurable results.  This was distinctively displayed during one of the largest anthrax response, decontamination, and remediation effort to a massive biological terrorist attack in the United States where he served as Incident Commander, and again, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, while serving as Director, Incident Management (USPS) where he was responsible for coordinating all response and recovery measures for the organization. An organization that encompasses 80 Customer Service Districts (which embraces all the FEMA Regions), 37,000+ Customer Service facilities, over 700,000 employees and $22 billion in USPS assets.

His enterprise-wide experience as a career practitioner, educator and Adjunct Professor and Senior Fellow continues in biological and chemical response, which lead to his participation on the Homeland Security Council (HSC) Sub-Policy Coordinating Committee (PCC), the American Society for Testing and Materials E-54 Committee on Homeland Security Applications, National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) Postal and Shipping Sector - Government Coordinating Council and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP), where he currently serves on two committees that address private sector emergency preparedness, business continuity, and biological and chemical threat agents. 

Mr. Bridges is Fellow of the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management and a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners (FACFE). He also holds a Master of Science degree from the National Graduate School, as well as being a graduate of the USMC Amphibious Warfare School and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, The Corporate Environmental Leadership Program at Yale University, and the Senior Executive Fellows program at Harvard University.  His in-depth knowledge and significant contributions related to quality systems management, business integration, and performance measures, which included being a key architect to the 2001 anthrax response and decontamination efforts culminated being awarded a Doctor of Science, honoris causa from the National Graduate School in Quality Systems Management.
