HAZUS®MH MR3 Earthquake Model User Guide

Resource Record Cover Image Thumbnail - mr3_eq_um_cvr.gif The HAZUS-MH Earthquake Model provides loss estimates of damage and loss to buildings, essential facilities, transportation and utility lifelines, and population based on scenario or probabilistic earthquakes. The model addresses debris generation, fire-following, casualties, and shelter requirements. Direct losses are estimated based on physical damage to structures, contents, inventory, and building interiors. The earthquake model includes the Advanced Engineering Building Module for single- and group-building mitigation analysis. New in MR3 Earthquake Model: Data: Commercial data updated to Dun & Bradstreet 2006; Building valuations updated to R.S. Means 2006, and Building counts based on census housing unit counts for RES1 and RES2 instead of calculated building counts. Methodology: Population distribution parameters in the casualty module will be adjustable and partial ignitions have been eliminated in the fire-following module. This user guide provides guidance for using the earthquake model.
