Directions
After the general election in October, nationalist parties gained the upper hand in Bosnia's legislatures and the three presidential seats. What does this mean for the reform process? Has desire for economic reform overtaken nationalist rhetoric? On May 8 the Institute's Balkans Working Group sponsored a special public roundtable.
Moderated by Daniel Serwer, director of the Institute's Balkans Initiative, the roundtable explored issues such as:
- Have the nationalist parties tempered their message?
- What are the moderates' prospects for success?
- How will this affect Bosnia's fight against organized crime and terrorism?
- Will the recent events in Serbia be a factor?
- What should the international community do?
