CARES Decision
Muskogee, OK VA Medical Center
The Secretary has reviewed the contractor’s Stage 1 report and the recommendations of the Management Assistance Council. The contractor’s Stage 1 Final Report recommends VA continue current services at the Muskogee VAMC. The Secretary has accepted the Stage 1 report recommendation completing the CARES Business Plan Study of Muskogee. Accepting this report reverses the Secretary’s May 2004 Decision to close surgical beds since the quality of surgical care is at appropriate levels. The facility will be instructed to continue monitoring quality and review the use of Intensive Care Unit beds using the Veterans Health Administration Rural Access policy guidelines. The facility will implement an increase in psychiatric beds consistent with the Mental Health Strategic Plan.
