Abstract:

This issue brief by The Child Health Insurance Research Initiative (CHIRI) examines enrollment in State Children’s Health Insurance Programs (SCHIP), and access to health care, among Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN). It discusses state coverage decisions, SCHIP as primary source of health care coverage for low-income CSHCN, and access to supplemental and specialty care services. The issue brief includes policy implications and sources and related studies of interest.
