Types of Trauma

People are exposed to various traumatic experiences that can lead to posttraumatic stress responses. These pages provide general information on various trauma types and the specific effects that each can have on survivors.

Information is provided on the effects of war, as well as some information on effects found from specific military conflicts, such as the Global War on Terror. Discussion of problems related to disaster exposure, such as terrorist attacks, hurricanes, floods, and tsunamis as well as to other traumas including sexual abuse, child sexual abuse and motor vehicle accidents is presented. You will also find information on special considerations for children living with their own or an adult's trauma.
